Every family has a few decorations that come out of the box each December and get a little moment of their own before they go on the tree. A personalised ornament for a ‘first’ Christmas is one of those – it marks the year something changed, and gets hung up again every year after.
Here are the firsts I make keepsakes for, and who each one suits.
When to order for Christmas
Order by Thursday 17 December for UK delivery before Christmas. Everything is personalised and made to order by me, then sent Royal Mail 1st class in a linen gift bag – but the closer it gets, the busier the post, so earlier is always better.
Baby's first Christmas
The classic. A ceramic ornament personalised with your little one's name and the year, made to hang on the tree every Christmas from now on. It's a lovely gift from grandparents, godparents or friends visiting a new baby in December.

First Christmas as Mummy and Daddy
The baby gets lots of attention at Christmas, so this one is for the new parents. Personalised with baby's name, it's a quiet way of saying ‘this was the year your family began’. I'm happy to change the wording to Mum and Dad, Mummy and Mummy or whatever fits.
First Christmas as grandparents
New grandparents are often the most excited people in the room. A personalised ornament with their names (Nana and Grandad, Granny and Pops – whatever they're called) makes a lovely present from the new parents.
First Christmas married or engaged
For couples who got engaged or married this year, an ornament with their names is a thoughtful Secret Santa or stocking filler, and it starts their own collection of decorations together.
First Christmas in a new home
Whether they've bought their first place or moved into a forever home, a first Christmas in a new home keepsake doubles as a housewarming present. There's a card on its own, or a card and ornament set.
Puppy's first Christmas
Because the dog is family too. A personalised ornament with their name for the tree they'll definitely try to investigate.
